Pharmacy First Plus
Our pharmacists have been busy training, we now have prescribing pharmacists in our Strathspey, Dingwall and Fort Augustus Stores.
This is new to the world of pharmacy and we have big plans, and we are providing the pharmacy first plus service (see below) as well as a range of private services.
Pharmacy First Plus Service
This is an exciting new concept from the NHS that allows pharmacies to provide more treatments and advice.
This allows prescribing pharmacists to consult and treat patients without seeing their GP.
This service is one where the community pharmacy provides a Pharmacist Independent Prescriber (PIP)-led service for patients presenting in the community pharmacy.
Its purpose is to provide an easily accessible service for common clinical conditions which are beyond the scope of the standard NHS Pharmacy First Scotland service; and when offered will ensure the patient receives the most appropriate and expedient care – reducing the pressures on general practice and urgent care colleagues and systems.
Conditions may include (but are not limited to):
-
Urinary tract infections
-
Respiratory infections
-
Ear, nose and throat
-
Dermatological presentations
-
Allergies
-
Eye infections (in conjunction with local optometry services)
The service includes the assessment and treatment of acute common clinical conditions allowing the pharmacist to write a prescription without seeing your GP.
All our pharmacies currently provide this services on at least 3 days a week.
NHS Pharmacy First Plus Scotland is an NHS service provided by your local community pharmacy.
If you have a minor illness, a pharmacy is the first place you should go for advice.
You do not usually need an appointment.
Your local pharmacist or a trained member of the pharmacy team will give you advice and provide medicine if needed. They may need to refer you to another healthcare professional such as your GP practice, dentist, optometrist or another NHS service if they feel your condition needs further investigation or more specialist care.
How it works
Simply contact the pharmacy
Our staff will help you as much as possible with your query and will either provide advice, provide treatment or refer you to a more suitable healthcare professional. We will need some details as we need to record all advice given.
